No matter how much your car gets sophisticated with multiple sensors or high performance v10 engine with seven-speed s tronic dual clutch transmission, everything is waste without two good pair of tires.

Shining Car

We get inundate with our car’s plethora of features & performance in such a way that we forget about the importance of mighty tires upon which the whole car rests on. Then later we realize them only at the time of tire blowouts and it’s one of the top causes of car accidents.

Follow the simple car tire maintenance tips to save your car from any future catastrophic failure while embarking on a beautiful long journey.

#1 Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated:

  • Maintaining proper amount of air pressure in your tire will lead to a safe & comfortable journey, improved vehicle handling, good gas mileage and prolonged life of the tires.
  • Generally the tires lose up air at the rate of up to 2 psi (pounds per square inch) of air every month. So it’s recommended to at least once in a month check the tire pressure (also check the spare tire) with a good quality gauge and inflate it if needed, by referring to the vehicle manufacturer’s owner’s manual.
  • You can also generally find the specifications on the inner side of the car door or may be inside the fuel filler cap. And always check the pressure before drive or 3 hours after drive means when the tires are cold preferably in the morning time.
  • Underinflated tires increases the rolling resistance, heating level, excessive or uneven wear of the tread which results in early expiry of the tire. Overinflated tires results in poor vehicle handling due to less amount of tire rubber touches the road.

#2 Rotate Your Tires Regularly:

  • Regular tire rotation is an important maintenance tip to keep even tread wear and helps in extending life of the tires with an increased performance.
  • Regular tire rotation is needed especially in front wheel drive vehicles because in these vehicles, its front axle tires handles all the braking, steering & driving forces but the rear axle tires only receive braking forces which results in a greater weight difference in both of the tires and tends to uneven tread wear.
  • You need to exchange each tire and wheel from one position of your vehicle to a different position to ensure that all tires wear evenly and last for longer period.
  • Tires should be rotated in every 6,000 to 8,000 miles and doing such will save both your time & dime in the long run.

#3 Keep Your Tires Aligned:

  • Tire alignment or wheel alignment means the adjustment of car’s front and rear suspension parts. It helps your car run safely & ensures efficient handling.
  • It also tends to increased fuel efficiency and protect from uneven tread wear.
  • Tire misalignment can be so subtle that you may not notice but you can feel it when the car will pull itself to one side and when you have less control over the vehicle. Yet, you can see a rapid tread wear in a couple of days.
  • This normally happens when you drive continuously through poorly maintained roads or come into contact with some potholes on a daily basis.

#4 Make Your Tire Balanced:

  • Making your tire balanced refers to the process of providing proper weight compensation when the tire is mounted on the wheels. It maintains even weight everywhere around the axle.
  • You can feel the tire unbalancing easily. Your car will start Mechanic With Tire Socket to wobble and steering wheel will vibrate when riding at a high speed. Unbalancing results in premature wearing of suspension and steering components, rotating parts and tires.
  • If the vibration happens, check your tires with vehicle balancing machine, that will show the area where your tires is underweight and calculates how much weight exactly needed to make them balanced.
  • There is a lot of benefits of tire balancing such as smoother and comfort driving experience, increased fuel efficiency, even tread wear etc.

#5 Routinely Check Tire Tread:

  • Tire tread offers the gripping action and traction that prevents your car from slipping and sliding on the road especially on a snowy or wet surface. So once in a month check if there is any signs of wear in the tire tread for a safer journey every time.
  • Use penny test to examine the level of tread wear. Take a Lincoln’s penny and place it in multiple grooves around your tires with Lincoln’s head upside down & facing you.
  • If you see his head fully appears outside, just confirm yourself that you are not driving a safe tire and it’s the time to change it.
  • Maintaining proper tire wear depth i.e. above 2/32 inch is needed imperatively for a smoother & safer drive. It also helps in increasing your vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

Final words:

It only takes a couple of minutes to check your tire for the above issues but gives you and your family a freedom of being carefree round the clock. Follow the above 5 useful simple tips for extended tire life and you will astonished to see how much you are saving on tire related issues. Really!

Whenever it is about car tire maintenance, I guess not much people have knowledge on it and we people don’t even care enough for the tires. Glad I got this article! I think, these tips are the better way to keep the car tires last for a long time. Alignment can be a serious problem and sometimes it can result accidents also. Tire inflation is another important thing to take care of. Anyways, thanks for sharing.
